Fragrance

Analyses concentration levels of bases to help create a good perfume!

Uses ultra-fast gas chromatography to produce olfactory images based upon aroma chemistry and performs near real time analysis of vapors and odors.

FRAGRANCE

zNose® tests any vaporized essence of fragrant compounds such as perfumes, cologne, etc. within real time. It gives complete chemical composition of such compounds, helping in maintaining the required concentration levels. It also helps in:

• Comparing the chemical signature of perfumes

• Helps in maintaining required concentration levels of fleuressence bases

• Effectively classifying perfumes by fleuressence notes or olfactory images

• Giving complete chemical composition of fragrant oils and bases

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

zNose® is a tool that provides perfumery experts the speed, portability, precision, and accuracy needed for cost-effective quality control measurements. These measurements, are based upon well known and widely used chromatographic methods and can be easily validated by independent laboratory testing.

zNose® is designed in such a manner that it first samples ambient air (aroma) and organic vapors collected (pre-concentrated) on the trap. After the sampling process, the trap is switched into the helium section where the collected organic compounds are injected into the helium gas. The organic compounds pass through a capillary column with different velocities and thus individual chemicals exit the column at characteristic times. As they exit the column they are detected and quantified by a solid state detector. An internal microprocessor then transfers sensor data to a user interface where aroma chemistry is displayed.

Several types of fleuressence bases such as Aldehyde, Citrus, Narcotic, Phenolic, etc. are used while making perfumes. All these bases have a certain concentration level that has to be well maintained to create the right kind of perfume. But knowing and maintaining these concentration levels is not an easy task. zNose® tests any vaporized essence of perfume within real time and with speed, precision, and accuracy using GC chromatography and SAW sensor techniques. Using these techniques it compares the chemical signature of perfumes created by trained perfumery technicians. Using indexing of retention times for target compounds it identifies these concentration levels determining a good chemical signature from a bad one.
