Fuels

A handy way to detect and quantify fuel contamination!

Uses sensor technology incorporating gas chromatography (GC) and Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) that samples fuel and detects contamination in less than a within.

FUELS

zNose® uses gas chromatography and SAW detector and is capable of testing any type of fuel and detects the contamination in a minute with speed, precision and accuracy. This unique technology also:

• Gives complete chemical composition of any type of fuel’s chemical vapor

• Detects any type of fuel contamination

• Quickly detects mixing of octanes and blended fuels

• Produces olfactory images to give better understanding

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Fuel contamination is a very serious and global problem that has led to many lethal incidents and wastage of tons of energy and fuel. The problem of fuel contamination is not only faced by service stations and general public, but also by air force, navy and aviation sector. In 2005, a pilot died in a plane crash due to fuel contamination as per Federal officials. In 2009, the jet fuel of U.S Air force’s C-130 USAF was found contaminated with Fatty Acid Methyl Ester, a harmful component for engines. Fuel contamination in both engines also led to emergency landing of an airbus at Hong Kong on April 13, 2010. The Navy IG report also found that the Fleet Readiness Center (FRC) East discarded about 12,000 gallons of fuel in December, 2014, due to contamination. The recent fuel contamination incident in Bangor, County Down led to a severe damage due to the contaminated fuel bought from Tesco’s service station. Tesco paid about £8m after more than 17,000 people filed claims against their vehicles, damaged by contaminated fuel.

zNose® easily detects volatile organic compounds in fuels such as gasoline, diesel, petrol, etc. Its high volatility detects chemical vapor in part-per-trillion range. It has the capability of analyzing fuel impurities using gas chromatography (GC) and Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) which carries the capability of sampling fuel and detecting the contamination within a minute. It uses a unique vapor analyzing technology to detect almost every possible kind of threat from odors and chemicals in near real time. It provides visual olfactory image, allowing operators to assess the chemical composition produced by any type of fuel’s chemical vapor and quickly detects the mixing of octanes and blended fuels.
